Tiantai Zen Music will Sing in the City of Angels, Los Angeles

      The performance of the Tiantai Zen Music Global Tour "Los Angeles Station," organized by the Zen Culture Center in the United States, will be grandly performed on June 20 and 21, 2023 at the San Gabriel Grand Theatre in Los Angeles. At that time, Abbot Shi Wule, the abbot of Tiantai Temple, will lead the only all monk symphony orchestra in the history of Chinese Buddhism established by him - the Jinghui Symphony Orchestra and the Dawn Chorus - to dedicate two extraordinary "Tiantai Zen Music" large-scale public welfare concerts with different contents to the audience in Los Angeles, USA.

      Tiantai Temple is located in Hong'an County, Hubei Province, China, which is renowned for its outstanding talents. In modern Chinese history, there were over ten prime ministers and military ministers (equivalent to the current Minister of National Defense) from Huang'an (now Hong'an County) throughout the dynasties;

      Tiantai Temple was founded in the fourth year of the Wude reign of the Tang Dynasty, with a history of over 1400 years. It is the birthplace of Tiantai Sect, one of the eight major Buddhist schools in China. In 2004, Abbot Shi Wule was invited by the Hong'an County Government to preside over the restoration and reconstruction of Tiantai Temple. He established the temple based on real cultivation, committed to restoring the pure cultivation atmosphere of the ancient path field, and advocated the tradition of Buddhism serving society. He became a Buddha with virtue, cared for all sentient beings, had a heart for the world, harmonious society, and served the country, integrating the development of Tiantai Temple into the trend of social development. Vigorously promote the three Zen cultures of Zen music, Zen tea, and Zen forest on the rooftop. Build a bridge between Buddhism and the masses through culture, and expand the audience of Buddhist teachings to non believers who are the main body of society through culture.

      In his early years, he graduated from Wuhan Conservatory of Music as the abbot of Wule. Relying on his profound musical skills, he perfectly integrated well-known music with profound Buddhist scriptures, creating a unique "Tiantai Zen music". Under the leadership of Abbot Wule, the Tiantai monks replaced traditional sitting meditation with music practice, traditional meditation with qin practice, and traditional preaching with stage performances.

      In order to promote Chinese traditional culture and Buddhist culture overseas and achieve a global tour of "Tiantai Zen Music", the frail and elderly Zen master Shiwule came to Madagascar, Africa, with a fearless spirit of sacrificing his life for justice, to build Xizu Temple as a rehearsal base, with nearly a hundred disciples voluntarily following. When I first arrived in Madagascar, I was unfamiliar with the land and the monastic community was in a very difficult situation. Zen master and more than 40 male members crowded into a house less than 100 square meters, and encountered "leakage at the head of the bed and no dry place" every time it rained heavily; In addition to going to the temple and practicing meditation, the members of the band also have to do various tasks in the temple, such as cooking, warehouse management, infrastructure maintenance, greening, hygiene, etc. They also need to practice the piano for more than six hours a day. The male members are in the shade of the trees in the courtyard, while the female members are sitting on small benches, squeezed together in a room

      The harsh conditions did not defeat them, but instead stimulated the infinite fighting spirit of young people. Their lives were not only about cultivation but also about music. The Zen band intensified its training in order to achieve specialization as soon as possible. We have completed high-level performances held in Madagascar and Mauritius, and have received on-site praise and long-term special coverage from national television stations in Madagascar and Mauritius, attracting senior officials from both countries, including the President, Vice President, and Cabinet Ministers. The Zen band has become well-known in both countries.

      The Zen Orchestra has traveled thousands of miles to the United States and embarked on a tour, providing us not only with a rare music feast and audio-visual enjoyment, but also with an excellent opportunity for the audience to wash their hearts and give blessings in life.
